New York, NY ��� "Growth companies are creating most of the jobs at $50,000+, so job seekers who can identify them will have many more opportunities to explore," says best selling author Robert J. Gerberg in his latest book, The Professional Job Changing System. "This book teaches people ways to identify growth firms in any industry. One of them is to find out the government's SIC or NAICS code for a growth company, and then use a corporate directory in the library to identify other firms in that same code."
"It's amazing how many people don't know about these codes. The SIC, or Standard Industrial Classification, was the original code the government developed to give every industry a number. The longer the number, the more specific the description, so that 20 is for food manufacturing, and 2043, for example, is cereal breakfast foods. The NAICS is international for North America, and it reflects the growing importance of service and other non-manufacturing industries. You can visit a growth firm's website or look it up in a corporate directory to get its code number, then you can look up all the companies in that category. Logically, many of them would be growth firms too. Or you can do this for any industry you're targeting, no matter how fast it is growing."
