Advanced Career Technologies Survey: Past Employer's Performance Hurt Job Search for 1 in 5

New York, NY ��� "At first you might not think it would be that big a problem, but 20% is a significant statistic. Of 2500 people at $50,000+ who'd been job searching over a year, 20% said they were hurt by the poor performance of a previous employer." Best selling author Robert J. Gerberg made this point based on the survey in his latest book, The Professional Job Changing System, available hardcover in bookstores nationwide.

"Unfortunately a lot of people mistakenly assume that if a company did poorly, then most of its employees could not have been making any significant contributions. That might not be logical or fair, but job seekers need to deal with that perception. In the first part of the book, as part of preparation, people learn how to neutralize that and other common liabilities. Starting with the resume, for example, they need a strong summary up front that does not mention the employer's name, but emphasizes instead their contributions. In the first third of their resume they also need to highlight the right keywords and the transferable skills and strengths that enabled them to contribute. For interviews, among other things, they need to learn how to tell action stories that precisely describe the steps they took to get best results when facing major problems or opportunities."

"Knowing how to handle liabilities is a major part of a successful job search, and this book tells you how to do that in the first section, preparation, along with how to create a more effective resume, set clear goals, identify all industry options and more. The 2nd section then shows people how to get considered for many more openings.
