Advanced Career Technologies Survey: 1 in 7 Failed Job Searches Involved Shift from Main Field

New York, NY ��� "In our survey of 2500 people at $50,000+ who'd been job searching over a year, 1 in 7 saw a problem in attempting to shift from their main area of experience. That figure is probably as low as it is because not many people will try it." That observation was made by best selling author Robert J. Gerberg. The survey results are in his latest book, The Professional Job Changing System, available hardcover in bookstores nationwide.

"The aim of this book is to instruct people on everything they need to know and do in order to be successful in a job search. For this particular problem they will learn how important it is for them to identify all their transferable skills and personal strengths, and be ready to emphasize these on their resumes and in interviews. They also learn they need to have a carefully crafted "selling proposition" and a number of action stories that demonstrate how they've used their skills to make contributions in the past."

"On the resume, they learn the importance of stating clear goals and writing every part of the resume to support that goal and not emphasize unrelated experience. The book also points out that for many people, using a letter as the initial communication gives them leeway to show they have knowledge of a field, and to focus on how specifically they might contribute in the future, instead of being locked into the past by a resume."

"The most appealing section for most people is about uncovering more openings in both the published and unpublished markets. A lot of people unknowingly settle for exposure to just 3% or so of all the opportunities that might be right for them. That includes not just the published market of ads, boards, employer sites and recruiters, but also the unpublished market. There they learn you need to follow precise rules if they expect to generate interest by contacting employers who have not advertised. They also learn how to find and respond to certain types of business news to find emerging jobs, and how to do "targeted networking" for better results. The principles on interviewing in another section are easy to apply and they work. To help them maintain enthusiasm and build confidence, people will also want to read the section on personal issues in job search."
