Advanced Career Technologies Survey: 1 in 11 Failed Job Searches Attributed to "Overqualified"

New York, NY ��� "Most people expect the number to be higher, but in our survey of 2500 people at $50,000+ who'd been job searching over a year, only 1 in 11, or 9%, said that being seen as overqualified was a problem. Still, it ranks as a common liability" Best selling author Robert J. Gerberg said this and other survey results are in his latest book, The Professional Job Changing System, available hardcover in bookstores nationwide.

"The aim of this book is to give any job seeker all they need to be successful in a job search. In the very first section we show people how to prepare in order to minimize or neutralize problems, and most people have one or more. As to being overqualified, a lot of advice in the first section will help. Setting the right goals, identifying your best industry options, not revealing liabilities on your resume, emphasizing transferable skills and personal strengths and targeting the right decision makers will help. So will advice in other sections about precise action-oriented stories and a "selling proposition."

"The section most job seekers will immediately turn to is about how to uncover more openings in both the published and unpublished markets. Most people can find only a small percentage of all the opportunities suitable for them. That includes the published market of ads, boards, employer sites and recruiters, and the unpublished market, where 50% or more of the opportunities will be for people over $50,000."

"But in the unpublished market people need to follow precise rules if they want to generate interest by contacting employers directly, and they need to learn how to find and respond to certain types of news to find emerging jobs. The advice on networking will also help a lot of people. The principles on interviewing in another section will enable readers to perform much better there, especially in today's heightened competition. The section on personal issues will help them build confidence and a will to succeed, so they maintain enthusiasm and momentum."
