Advanced Career Technologies Survey: Common Job Search Liabilities: Age, Unemployed, Too Specialized
New York, NY "We surveyed 2500 people at $50,000+ who'd been searching for a job with no results for more than a year. The three liabilities they blamed most often were unemployment at 68%, age at 65% and being too specialized at 62%. There are ways to neutralize or at least minimize all of them, and job seekers need to know this." Best selling author Robert J. Gerberg made this point as he referred to the survey in his latest book, The Professional Job Changing System, available hardcover in bookstores nationwide.
"In the first section of the book people learn how to neutralize liabilities beforehand. Hoping they won't be noticed is not a winning strategy. They also learn how to set the goals best for them, target in on all their best industry options, and identify all their transferable skills and personal strengths to increase their appeal. As you'd expect, they also get precise instructions on how to write a resume that is a fast moving selling document, one that will set them apart and pre-sell them to employers."
"The most common complaint of job seekers is that they can't find enough openings, so readers will be interested in the section on how to uncover more openings in all 8 sectors of the job market — both published and unpublished. In the published market of ads, job boards, employer sites and recruiters, they learn what to do to increase the number of openings they get considered for. Success in the unpublished market requires more initiative, but that's where 50% or more of the opportunities will be."
"There people need to follow all of the rules the book gives them if they want to, for example, generate interest by contacting directly employers who haven't advertised. They also need to learn how to respond to certain types of news to find emerging jobs. And there are a lot of things people don't understand about today's networking, such as a personal marketing website. The interviewing instructions in the 3rd section, based on success in thousands of cases, will give readers a big competitive edge. They need it in today's market. Many will find the section on personal issues helps them build confidence and a will to succeed, so they can maintain enthusiasm and momentum."
